Chris Rogers – Founder of Bath Kettlebell Bootcamp
Why did you become a fitness professional?
Throughout my childhood and teenage years I had always been overweight and remember being pretty unhappy about it. Although I did exercise a fair amount as I grew older I realised the food I was eating and the lifestyle I was leading were definitely not helping me out!
The trigger for change came when I was on my first ‘lads’ holiday when I was 18. Still overweight and feeling pretty self conscious about it we ventured to the beach on day one. As I took my top off one of my ‘friends’ burst out laughing, pointing at my body and laughing at my ‘man boobs’!
I’m not sure why that was the final straw but that was the moment I decided that enough was enough. As soon as I got home I started researching nutrition, exercise and health. I completely changed my eating habits, started weight training and changed my lifestyle. 6 months later my own cousin (who I hadn’t seen for a year), didn’t even recognise me because of the changes in my body! I even managed to kiss a real girl!!
It was this turning point that made me re-think my future career and I decided I wanted to help others that were and are in the same position I was in… and I haven’t looked back since!
Why did you set up Bath Kettlebell Bootcamp?
I was frustrated with the lack of results gym goers were getting from their health club memberships and ad hoc training programmes that produced sub standard (if any) results. I also wanted to help as many people as possible achieve the same outstanding results as my Bath personal training clients. So creating a group exercise ‘bootcamp’ where clients could see me 3-4 times a week for 4 week blocks while also gaining access to my fitness & fat loss nutritional protocols seemed to fit the bill. I was blown away by the results of the first bootcamp in February 2009 and also the interest! Bath Kettlebell Bootcamp is still growing from strength to strength 4 years on and looking back I am very proud of how many people we have helped.
What qualifications do you have?
BSc (Hons) Science, Health, Exercise & Sport, NASM Certified Personal Trainer, Spinning, Circuits, Advanced Kettlebell Coach, Olympic Weight Lifting Instructor, Muscle Activation Techniques Practitioner, Sports Massage.
What do you like doing in your spare time?
Sport wise I love Snowboarding, Mountain Biking and have recently took up Stand Up Paddle Boarding, which is way harder than it looks! I also love good food, great coffee and the occasional pint of Guinness/Cider or glass of Red!
What would you say to someone thinking about doing their first Bath Kettlebell Bootcamp?
Do it! If what you are currently doing isn’t moving you closer to your goals then it is time to change things and start moving TOWARDS your goal!
